Beautiful day. Nothing happened. Work, work, work, reading graded readers all afternoon. One, 'Don't stop now' from Cambridge University Press, was all about Maltese gangs in Soho, complete with 2 beatings by basball bat! Perhaps a bit much for my prissy 15 year old girls and boys – enough to put them off their homestays.

Thanks H&D for this one. A pleasant, fruity merlot providing easy drinking. Reason enough to continue the Chilean wine quest. We enjoyed it with a pasta bake and a good fight about the evils of using packet sauces (Bu for, for conveniences sake cos he does all the cooking, Pu against).
Heard from S last night that Triton had its final party last Saturday night and will therefore join the ranks of all the bars that have closed over the last year or so. (B-cool, On, Fever, Sea Paradise etc.) Now only 1 or 8 left but Bu has embarrassed himself one time too many with bad Bowie karaoke there will no longer be any need to trek down to the 2nd floor.
Good times, however, were had in those bars over the years and they will be missed.

Our friend S has joined the 三十路 club by turning 30 so we had a brief party for him yesterday with a rocket salad snipped from our balcony herb garden and some fine Italian bubbly. Still recovering from the weekend so little else to report. Pics here:
Two wines were sampled last night by the four of us. However, owing to excessive consumption of Belgian Beer beforehand my memories are a bit hazy about how the wines tasted. The first, Chateau Peyrou from the Cote de Castillon, was particularly oaky and the second, a Japanese red from Chateau Sakaori, just very hollow. I'm sure that had we not consumed so much syrupy beer beforehand they would have been very different. Both wines bought from KB wine.
H & D came to visit from Tokyo and with 2 of Towser's 450円 pints of Guinness to start with, the evening turned quite boozy. After attempting to line our stomachs with some fried rice and gyoza we then went on to Les Temps Perdu – a fantastic Belgian beer and jazz bar near our apartment. There, we drank expensive 12% beer and conversed with a drunk lady and her scowling companion. Here is the beer we drunk (I think!?)

To celebrate the coming of summer and the damage those high temperatures could possibly do to our wine, we have decided to invest in a wine cellar. Stylish though a tad hefty for our small apartment, it stores 12 bottles and we have already begun to stock it up. Here it is, as modeled by Bu:
Yes, despite the terrible reviews, we went to see Tom Hanks creak his way through the DaVinci Code. I suppose the film could best be described as clunky.
I almost fell asleep a few times (though it had been a hectic day at work) and save a bit of fun from villain Ian McKellan, the film suffers from never ending when you'd like it to. I urge you to curl up at home and read Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco instead.
In any case, it seems we are all descended from Jesus. Hooray!
今日は夜勤明け、さっと家に寄りシャンプーしぎりぎりのタイミングでカットに行ってきました。そうそう、新しいワックス買いました。まだ店には出てないみたいで。前回はまだ販売用はなく見本で置いてあっただけで購入はできなかったけど、今日は既に販売開始済みみたいで、前々回とセットしてもらい臭い、感触ともに気に入ったから。ここ数年流行ってたワックスですが今年はジェルが復活するみたいです。でも私はジェルはあんまり派です。
