Yes we was…for dumping a bit of wood and metal at the local dumping spot near our old place. It took no less than 8 policemen to arrest us for this heinous crime. Pu and I were put into seperate patrol cars and interviewed seperately about our involvement in the apparent crime of the century ( well seemingly in the eyes of Kanagawa police anyway). We were then photographed next to our rubbish on some scales, outside our old appartment building and pointing to the spot where we had dumped the offending items. We were then bailed out by a friend. The whole process took about 5 hours. Have to report back to the police with my birth certificate(!?) ready to pay some hefty fine. OK, I know we were technically breaking the law but come on – I think we have some seriously bored policemen in Yokohama. Most of the crime is corporate in Japan anyway so our friendly neighbourhood police must jump at the chance for a bit of action. Still seething with rancour…

“Everybody looks better under arrest.” – John Waters
will they give you copies of the photos? (you’ll be paying enough after all)
they were probably tailing you because of your tattoo.
Chortle!!! That’s hillarious. Now that you have a criminal record, I should perhaps completely disassociate myself with you and retract any invitations I may have made with regards to spending Christmas in the sun this year….mind you, being a pom, I’m sure you’ve got a witty retort along the lines of Australia being the perfect place for a felon convicted of a petty crime to end up.
I’d love a copy of the photos but I blame their snap happy ways on the advent of digital cameras. There’s no way they’d have taken so many pics if they’d had to pay for the film and development. Still seething with rancour.
