'Quickly, bring me a beaker of wine, so that I may wet my mind and say something clever.'
Aristophanes

Although very little of intelligence pours forth from Bu or Pu after drinking wine, we do so love wetting our mind with it! This page is therefore dedicated to the grape and all its delights.
Excuses for drinking
Over the last couple of years we have been paying much more attention to what we drink rather than guzzling down any old crap from the 7eleven cos the bottle looks nice. While we are still very much novices when it comes to tasting and evaluating the wine we buy, we are trying and hope to get better at it as we drink more and more. Whenever we open a new bottle we will post some comments on the main blog site although without too much wine-speak as we really haven't a clue for the most part. Please feel free to add your recommendations, preferably with a link to where it can be bought and we will do the same.
Bu and Pu's favourite wines
We have always enjoyed a good claret(Bordeaux), especially those from the Haut-Medoc: St Julien, St Estephe, Pauillac etc. but are open to any wine from the region.
New world wines are big on our dinner table too; Shiraz from the Yarra and Barossa Valleys and Riesling from New Zealand being notable and trustworthy.
Still fumbling around with Italian and Spanish wines but have usually found bottles from Rioja and Piedmont to be a safe bet for our tastes.
Grapes

We're happy with anything really but love a good Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz for reds. Still getting to know Pinot Noir but liking it. Whites; riesling and chardonnay.
Links to wine sites
This is a good one for general wine knowledge as well as sales for UK residents.
We usually buy from Enoteca in Japan (Mostly Japanese site but with a bit of English)
For Australian and New Zealand wines in Japan, Village Cellars is good.
We will be adding more links as we find more good sites…

With the pluto entering the 7th solar house of Bacchus, your life will be filled with bottles, corks and even the occasional screw-cap (sorry, the “Stelvin seal”). Avoid over indulging in the next few weeks, but remember that tea-totling is for dullards. Avoid also any wine in a wanky bottle…or worse still, a blue bottle. Anything with the words “Nouveau” and/or “Suntory” on the label should be given a wide berth, as should house wines in cheap pasta joints & yakiniku places.
Lucky Wines: Coonawarra Shiraz, Tasmanian Pinot Noir, hunter Semillon and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Thanks chaps. Will get on the blower to Village Cellars immediately.
i tend to agree with the lucky wines although most new zealand wines do it for me!
Have just signed onto Nat West Wine Club( free bottle of Malt was the carrot) Super selection at reasonable prices case of 12.
Have given them your contact and also E’s address in the hope of sharing the spoils. Seemed a good way of maintaining a good flow without the effort of going out to select, buy and carry it to home. Perhaps that the attraction but these days an easy life seems attractive!.
Buon luogo, congratulazioni, il mio amico!
